Asus has finally given the official go-ahead to its long-rumored EeePC Keyboard, a keyboard that packs an Intel Atom-based netbook inside of it.

The device has a built-in 5-inch (800x480 resolution) multitouch display and connects wirelessly to a full-size monitor, which Asus calls "Eee WiCast wireless HDMI."

The company insists the wireless tech is nearly latency-free and best for gaming and multimedia -- nevermind the aging Intel Atom N270 processor inside.

You'll also find 1GB of memory, either 16GB or 32GB of solid state storage and -- surprisingly, for a new device -- Windows XP.

The small built-in display is to be used to launch apps, control media player software or serve as a touchpad.

The included rechargeable battery will run for 4 hours, the company says. The Asus EeePC Keyboard will sell for $499 and will be available in Q1 2010.
