The Jewish holiday of Chanukah began on Sunday night and runs for 8 days. A couple of San Francisco programmers are bringing in the holiday with a fun iPhone and iTouch app.

iMenorah is very cute $1.99 program by Mike Jutan and Matthew Parrott. Users drag the Shamash candle across the screen to the other candles on the virtual menorah and then light the lights. Mike sings the blessings so you can chant along.

From Mike:

The app is a lot of fun, and you'll even catch me singing the bruchas for each night of Chanukah - right from your iPhone or iPod Touch! You can light the candles with the touch of your finger. Take part in the centuries-old tradition of lighting the Hanukkah candles ... now available at your fingertips. :)

He said they will donate 10 percent of the proceeds to the San Francisco Jewish Community Center.

The JCCSF has a real sense of the importance of spreading knowledge, of learning, study and discussion. They are incredibly well organized, and they are doing great things for San Francisco (and for SF's Jewish Community, too). We'd like to support their outstanding efforts.

Mazel tov!
