Chips on shoulder: VoIP semiconductor market heads toward $1.7 billion annual sales

A new report from technology research firm IDC estimates that the VoIP semiconductor market will reach $1.7 billion by 2008.

A new report from technology research firm IDC estimates that the VoIP semiconductor market will reach $1.7 billion by 2008. That's a 48 percentcompounded annual growth rate from now up until that year.

IDC says the strongest driver will be residential and small business customer premise broadband gateways - alreadya majorpriority for cable and DSL operators.

"The semiconductor vendors building products that run at the heart of these designs will benefit from this migration, especially as standards continue to mature," IDC Semiconductor Research program manager Sean Lavey said in a statement.
