Cisco plugs security into mobile working line

Secure Borderless Networks aims to combine the features of VPN and mobile security, to protect everything from the datacentre to end devices
Written by Larry Dignan, Contributor

Cisco has introduced a 'borderless security' architecture and a supporting set of products aimed at businesses with mobile workers. The Secure Borderless Networks initiative was unveiled on Tuesday at the RSA security conference.

Kevin Kennedy, Cisco's product marketing manager, outlined the borderless security push, arguing that the old architecture of "mobile brick walls" doesn't work. The aim of the architecture is to combine the features of virtual private networks and mobile security so that a company can secure everything from the cloud to the datacentre to end devices, according to Kennedy.

The products announced are Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility and Cisco TrustSec. The products will launch in the first week of April and throughout the second quarter. Cisco is looking to combine products like its AnyConnect remote access software with its IronPort security appliances. Other items from Cisco will include web application controls and software as a service (SaaS) single sign-ons.
