Cisco Systems will undertake an initial investment in Pakistan of between three and five million, according to Rowland Griffiths, regional director of Cisco Systems, Middle East.

KARACHI, 13 July 2000 (Asia Pulse) - Explaining that Cisco Systems is committed to developing Internet networking in the Pakistani market, Griffiths said that Cisco's office in Islamabad would be set up by the end of this year. Later, he added, offices would be established in Karachi and Lahore.

Griffiths said that Pakistan is now a very exciting market. With a population of about 140 million and a literacy rate of 35 percent, he said, about 20 to 40 million people are likely to need Internet connectivity over the next two to five years.

He said that the present government's policy of pushing the development of Internet technologies is very encouraging. It gives a clear message that technology is now on the agenda at the highest levels of economic, trade, communications and education ministries and added that Cisco applauds this.
