Cisco to furnish Dubai Internet City

Cisco Systems will furnish telecom gear to Dubai Internet City, the companies announced Tuesday. Dubai Internet City(DIC) is a high-tech office park in Dubai, a city that is part of the United Arab Emirates, which shares borders with Saudi Arabia. Cisco will supply a variety of Internet gear to the project, such as its 124000 and 10700 series of routers, which will enable DIC tenant companies to have access to high-speed Ethernet connections. The Dubai government-supported venture aims to attract foreign tech companies to set up offices at DIC by offering perks such as relaxed labor and taxation laws. DIC's technology infrastructure includes servers from Sun Microsystems and cables from Lucent Technologies. --Sam Ames, Special to ZDNet News
