Nigh on £2.5 billion of the civil service's £32.5 billion budget will be spent on IT in both 1996/97 and 1997/98, according to a report from specialist researcher Kable.

London-based Kable says IT spend has been on an eight per cent of total budget plateau for several years. The big benefator here is EDS which took in the region of £264.7 million in Kable's estimate.
