Cloud Sherpas scores U.K. government cloud credentials
In September, Cloud Sherpas expanded its footprint in the United Kingdom with the acquisition of local Google consulting partner Stoneburn Software Services. That deal gave it 70 full-time employees, a number that it plans to double over the next year.
Apparently, someone has already noticed. This week, the integrator disclosed it has been selected for specialist status under the U.K. government's G-cloud iv initiative.
The G-cloud framework is similar to the U.S. government's General Services Administration schedule, in that it sets forth guidelines for agencies to procure certain approved goods and services with less red tape. The program was established three years ago to cover cloud applications and infrastructure, and this is the fourth iteration; the current version remains in effect until May 2014.
Cloud Sherpas' authorization, officially part of the G-cloud iv Specialist Cloud Services category, should make it simpler for it to negotiate government contracts.
"There is a growing realization that cloud technologies can be leveraged effectively by government, and our experience with government agencies already in the U.K., Australia and the U.S. has demonstrated how these technologies can be rapidly deployed," said Colin Robinson, vice president of consulting services for Cloud Sherpas.
