Here at CES, Comcast is proudly heralding their new ranking as the fourth-largest residential phone service provider in the U.S.

At one time they were the sixth largest, behind, Verizon, AT&T, Qwest, Sprint-spinoff Embarq, and Vonage. But now, they've passed Embarq. They passed Vonage about sixth months ago.

What's interesting in this announcement is the repeated, yet implied mantra (hmm, can a mantra be "implied?" that Comcast Digital Voice ain't VoIP.

As they have before, Comcast calls their CDV offering "a true home phone replacement service."

Actually, it is. As many of you already know, CDV travels over Comcast pipes, not the not-entirely-dependable Internet like Vonage does.
