In an effort to expand its broadband portfolio for mid-sized businesses, Comcast has introduced Metro Ethernet services that deliver broadband performance speeds ranging from 1Mbps up to 10Gbps.

Intended for companies with 20 to 500 employees (even in multiple locations), the fiber-based IP network is touted as a "cost-effecive" upgrade from older technologies such as multiple T1 lines and Frame Relay. Some of the purposes of using such a broadband solution include SaaS applications, cloud computing and business process automation.

Potential subscribers to Metro Ethernet services have four packages to choose from, which vary depending on the number of office locations, customer sites, and dedicated/private lines.

As of today, Comcast has launched Metro Ethernet Services in the following metropolitan areas: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Harrisburg (Pa.), Hartford, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Miami, Nashville, state of New Jersey, Oakland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Washington D.C. and western New England.

If you don't see your area on this list, don't worry. Comcast plans to add coverage to additional markets on an ongoing basis.
