After years of double-digit growth, the Croatian printer market was almost flat in 2004, with shipments inching up by just 1.2% to just over 146,000 units and revenue climbing by 2.5% to $29.97 million. According to IDC, the jump in popularity of multifunctional peripherals (MFPs) is largely responsible for the slowdown and the market will continue to contract, with unit sales of single-function machines declining by 3.8% in 2005 and 3.5% in 2006.

Shipments of mono laser machines rose by 9.5% in units to account for 26.4% of total volume. Meanwhile, the number of color laser machines on the market almost doubled, although they started from a relatively low base (constituting only 1% of shipments in 2003 and just under 2% in 2004). By contrast, the inkjet segment contracted by 3.7% in units as users migrated towards MFPs. Nevertheless, inkjets were still the most popular technology on the Croatian printer market in 2004, accounting for more than 66% of shipments, and will not vanish any time soon.
