In keeping with Rhapsody's high-end slant, two database vendors announced editions of their software for Apple's new, objected-oriented OS.

OpenBase International Ltd. released a version of its OpenBase SQL database for Rhapsody.

OpenBase comes with tools for creating and administering databases and viewing data. It also includes an Enterprise Object adapter for linking to WebObjects and Yellow Box applications. The database, now at Version 5.1.3, runs on OpenStep/Mach and Windows NT, as well as Rhapsody.

Snap Innovation GmbH announced it ported its PrimeBase relational database to Rhapsody. Snap is a spinoff of P.INK Software Engineering GmbH of Hamburg, Germany, maker of the P.INK SQL database system.

PrimeBase includes an OpenStep Enterprise Object adapter for hooking WebObjects and Yellow Box applications to the database. The company said the client portion of the client-server database compiles and optimizes queries.

The database management system supports SQL, Version 2.0 of Open Database Connectivity standard, Version 1.3 of Data Access Language and Data Access Manager, the company said. Besides Rhapsody, it runs native on 680x0- and PowerPC-based Macs, Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS and Solaris machines, AIX systems, and Windows 95 and NT boxes.
