Dell EMC updates, launches new systems, software as it integrates legacy products
Dell EMC on Wednesday rolled out a bevy of products that are designed to link the two companies and provide the glue to a huge portfolio of enterprise technologies.
On September 7, Dell completed its acquisition of EMC to form Dell Technologies. A bit more than a month later, Dell EMC is hosting a customer event designed to illustrate how the two sides are better together.
While it's early in the integration process between EMC and Dell -- a lot of the heavy lifting will occur at the end of the current fiscal year in February -- the company is moving quick to align products so they interoperate.

Peter Smails, vice president of product marketing, core technologies at Dell EMC, said the product moves are a proof point "on how quickly we're moving to provide a common user experience between legacy EMC and Dell hardware."
In the long run, Dell Technologies will have to work to provide connective tissue for its portfolio.
At Dell EMC World in Austin, the company rolled out the following as an early installment:
New VxRail Appliances and VxRack System 1000 hyper-converged infrastructure systems that will be powered by PowerEdge servers. These hyperconverged systems marry EMC's storage with Dell's popular server systems. Dell EMC is promising lower entry prices starting at $45,000 and enhancements in compute performance and storage in all-flash nodes.
The hyper-converged systems include VMware, a Dell Technologies portfolio company, and are designed to cover more price points and integration since one firm owns all the parts.
Updates to the Dell EMC Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS) object storage platform. ECS 3.0 is designed for private and dedicated cloud services. The system is designed to replace enterprise tape backup. The platform will support Dell's latest PowerEdge servers and be certified on systems such as the Dell EMC DSS 7000. Dell EMC launched a high-density family of appliances to replace tape backup. ECS has a dedicated cloud service hosted by Virtustream as well as certifications to work with Data Domain.
Isilon All-Flash Network Attached Storage designed for unstructured data with scale to 92.4 PB per cluster. Isilon runs on the OneFS operating system and integrates with existing Isilon clusters, hard drives, and flash. Isilon had previously been known as EMC's Project Nitro.
A combined strategy for SC Series storage customers via a common management tool and data protection experience. The midmarket SC Series, formerly known as Compellent storage arrays, will be interoperable with the EMC portfolio. Dell EMC said its primary aim is to allow customers to mix and match storage products.
Software defined version of Dell EMC Data Domain protection for a unified management experience, integration with cloud workloads, and deduplication. Data Domain Virtual Edition 3.0 was also launched to run on PowerEdge servers with pretested architectures. Data Domain Virtual Edition will run with VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V.
