Michael Dell has said that Dell will sell toner and ink though retail stores, in another depature from its direct sales model.

"You'll see better availbility of toner and ink where people want to buy toner and ink," Dell told the Gartner IT Symposium in Orlando.

Later, during a speech to CIOs at the same conference, Michael Dell claimed that Dell had an install base of 12 million printers, and that the CIOs were soon "going to see an announcement that with make it easy to buy ink and toner in the same places you buy ofice supplies."

Later still, Mark Jarvis, the chief marketing officer or Dell, also said that there would be an announcement following the upcoming toner announcement that Dell would begin to sell printers in the same places where its going to sell toner and ink.

So, your heard it here first -- Dell is to sell toner, ink and printers through office supplies stores.

I must admit, I find it difficult to get excited about printers, unless you're talking about printable circuit boards and the like. However, normal printers seem to be a concern for IT professionals.
