UK ISP Demon Internet will next week attempt to lay the ghost of Internet software retailing with the release of Demon Internet Suite. The £39.95 package will include a Demon dial-up account sign-up with one-month's usage, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Turnpike communications software, and SoftQuad's HotMetal Light authoring toolkit.

Although several vendors have struggled to make profit from Net-related software thanks to the prevailing giveaway/download mentality created by the likes of Netscape, Microsoft and CompuServe, Demon says the market for Web newcomers hasn't been swamped by freebies.

"A lot of people won't have anything," said Joe Corr, marketing director for Demon's products and services division. "Nine months ago, Internet users were relatively technical but recently we've found that about 20 per cent of our new users are coming from consumer online services like CompuServe."

Demon Internet Suite will also be sold as a stripped-down 30-day trial product for £9.95, and through OEM bundles.

Demon Internet can be contacted by telephone on 0181-371 1234.
