Digital Post Australia has launched its digital mailbox services on an invite-only basis,.
Australia Post had tried to ban the company from trading under Digital Post, but failed earlier this week when the Federal Court dismissed, where it accused Digital Post of misleading conduct for choosing a business name similar to its own.
As the name suggests, Digital Post can deliver a digital replica of physical documents that are sent to a users' postal address. The digital mail can be viewed from any web-connected device, such as a smartphone.
The private launch was only opened to employees of businesses that have signed up to deliver digital postal mail. These include a number of financial, utility and investor service companies. Over five hundred people registered to use the digital mailbox service within the first hour, according to the company.
The digital mailbox will be rolled out to the public later this year, but people can register their interest at www.digitalpost.com.au.
Digital Post has also appointed Randy Dean as CEO, who was previously managing director of Digital Postal Mail at Zumbox, a technology partner based in San Francisco, California.
Digital Post is a joint venture between Computershare, Salmat and Zumbox.
