NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest mobile services operator, said on Thursday it expects to surpass its earnings targets for the year ending on 31 March.

DoCoMo president and chief executive Keiji Tachikawa told a news conference he expected group current profit to surpass a November forecast of 665bn yen (£3.78bn), but other figures would also likely be higher than previously predicted.

Last November, DoCoMo said it expects group net profits of 347bn yen for the current business year, and operating profits of 728bn yen.

DoCoMo also said it aims to launch services similar to its i-mode Internet communications network for cellular phones in Britain and the United States by April of next year.
