Downer EDI looks to HP for infrastructure

Engineering powerhouse Downer EDI has signed a deal with HP, tasking the IT services firm with providing all of its IT infrastructure needs for the next six years.

Engineering powerhouse Downer EDI has signed a deal with HP, tasking the IT services firm with providing all of its IT infrastructure needs for the next six years.

"This agreement is a key enabler for the business going forward," Downer EDI chief executive officer Grant Fenn said in a statement. "Downer currently has eight datacentres, five data networks, 36 operating systems and a number of email systems.

"Under this agreement with HP, we will move from the current fragmented and inefficient model to a single datacentre, operating system and network."

Fenn said that the arrangement would reduce risks and boost performance of the business, as well as saving costs.

There would be a four-month transition period before Downer formally hands over to HP, according to Fenn.
