Dropbox engineering VP Aditya Agarwal takes over as CTO
Cloud-based file sharing service Dropbox has named its current VP of engineering, Aditya Agarwal, its new CTO.

Agarwal replaces Dropbox co-founder Arash Ferdowsi, who's held the top technical spot in the company since launch in 2007. Ferdowsi will remain with the company but focus more on helping Dropbox scale as a company and business.
As CTO, Dropbox said Agarwal will oversee the company's innovation efforts and continue to manage the product engineering team, where he's credited with building products like Dropbox Business, Dropbox Enterprise, and Paper.
Agarwal joined Dropbox through its 2012 acquisition of Cove, a company he founded in 2011. Prior to Cove, he was an early engineer at Facebook and eventually became director of product engineering at the social network, where he oversaw the development of some of its core products.
Looking at the bigger picture, it seems like Agarwal's promotion is part of effort to focus the company's engineering strategy, as it aims to move beyond the basics of file sharing and boost productivity features across its platform.
"We're on an ambitious journey to reimagine the way people work together," said Dropbox CEO Drew Houston in a blog post. "Critical to this will be our ability to build simple and impactful products through world-class engineering. Over the past four years, Aditya has shown a deep commitment to our company, our products, and our people. He consistently pushes us to think bigger and to aim higher as a company."
