DVD-RAM group asks for approval
The DVD Forum has asked the European Computer Manufacturers Association to approve its format for DVD-RAM as a defensive measure against a competing specification for an optical disk led by by Sony.
DVD-RAM, which specifies a single-sided rewriteable disk with 2.6Gb capacity, has come under threat from Sony, which proposes a 3Gb capacity. Philips and Hewlett-Packard have backed Sony.
