Egg.com cracks popularity poll

Egg brushes away security concerns to come top of a poll on Internet banks
Written by Will Knight, Contributor

Online bank Egg.com has come top of the pile of Britain's favourite financial Web sites in a report released Tuesday. The win will be a gratifying achievement for the firm which suffered security scares soon after the service was launched.

Research from European Internet ratings service Net Value suggests that as many as one in 11 UK Internet users have visited Prudential's online banking service, a total of 881,100 out of Britain's nine million online.

Egg is the only pure-Internet UK banking venture to feature in the top ten listing of financial Web sites.

The next most popular Internet banking sites are Barclays.co.uk with 445,500 visitors and nationwide.co.uk with some 306,000 visitors.

Interactive Investor International was found to be the most "sticky" UK financial Web site, users staying for an average of 55.5 minutes each month.
