Electronics top export in Philippines

MANILA - Although the electronic component sector took top export spot in November, its earnings were marginal with a 2% increase from last year.

According to the the National Statistics Office [NSO] the semiconductor devices and micro-circuits sector reported $8.97 million and $400.6 million in sales respectively.

The report added that total receipts from other electronics components consisted mainly of finished electrical and electronic machinery and parts manufactured from materials on consignment basis also grew by 23.3% to $288 million.

The NSO said exports of electronics components to the United States amounted to $443 million, down by 1.3% from 1999. Shipments of garment to the US also reached $136.5 million.
