EMC has put its name down as a sponsor of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Product and Supply Chain Initiative, which is a joint project of the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development.

The effort aims to establish a standard set of measures for tracking emissions across a company's entire product value chain. EMC has been measuring its greenhouse gas emissions since 2004, and its current aim is to cut them by 8 percent from 2005 levels before 2012. The initiative is attempting to get ahead of legislation proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency that would make greenhouse gas emissions reporting a mandatory requirement for about 13,000 facilities across the United States. Here's more about that legislation.
