EMC's Iomega on Tuesday will roll out a new network storage array designed to target small and medium sized business designed to hit the key $5,000 price point for 4TB.

The rackmount storage array, dubbed the StorCenter ix12 300r, fits well in the EMCportfolio. The latest Iomega storage device fill the gap where its small business products end and EMC's large enterprise line-up begins.

According to Iomega, rackmount StorCenter ix12-300r supports workgroups, departments and distributed offices without IT staff. The latest StorCenter supports up to 250 users and can expand to 24TB in a 2 rack unit.

Among the key features:

  • Software that's typically found in large enterprise applications such as production file
  • and block data storage as well as backup to disk capabilities.
  • Support for virtualized environments including VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V and Exchange and
  • Citrix XenServer products.
  • It mounts in a standard rack with a 4TB and 8TB base configuration with an option to go to
  • 24TB.
  • The StorCenter ix12-300r uses EMC's Linux-based LifeLine software that is cross platform
  • and supports multiple virtualized environments.

Jeff Graham, regional product manager for NAS product line, said being certified for multiple virtualization platforms will be a differentiator. As for competition, Graham expects the latest StorCenter to compete with NetApp at the low end and rivals like NetGear and LaCie. CDW will be the exclusive channel partner May 10 and starting in June other retailers will be added. The 4TB model starts at $4,999.99.
