EMEA PC sales displayed healthy 15.7% year-on-year growth in Q1 2005 in Europe, Middle East, and Africa, according to IDC. Boosted by robust consumer demand for both desktops and notebooks, PC sales even recorded slightly stronger results than anticipated. Desktop sales displayed healthy growth, in line with forecasts, at close to 10%, while notebooks continued to drive overall EMEA market growth at close to 30% compared with Q1 2004. The demand for portable PCs remained unabated across all segments, assisted by fierce vendor competition in both the consumer and business channels, and the strength of the euro which continues to help vendors maintain very attractive pricing.
