Atlanta-based Endeavor Telecom is one of those vendors that furnish wholesale services to telephony providers.

We're talking field service support as well as Tier 1 and Tier 2 phone help.

Earlier this week at Fall VON in Boston, Endeavor execs sounded like they could not wait for the formal announcement that they are providing professional installation services for Vonage in 39 U.S. cities.

Starting at $99.95, the services will be offered to residential as well as business customers. When the Endeavor person comes to your door, h/she will arrive as a Vonage rep.

I think this is important because if Vonage-and other VoIP providers- really want to go mainstream, they have to offer all appropriate hand-holding to those potential customers who might feel a bit intimidated with the do-it-yourself installation procedure for a VoIP line. They wind up infringing on a friend's time, opting for a softphone solution such as Skype, or more likely than not just staying with their current landline carrier.

But if VoIP is to really become mainstream, this can't continue. Not when customers are already used to on-premise services from their telecom and cable providers.

Many if not most of you readers already know the drill. But there are many millions of folks who aren't that comfortable with Analog Terminal Adapters and routers. And there are still more who could figure it out, but simply don't have the time in their busy workaday schedules.

That's where the Endeavor-delivered Vonage service will help.
