SINGAPORE - Equant was named Best New Carrier for the second consecutive year at this year's World Communication Awards 2000 ceremony.

Equant won in a vote by readers of Communications Week International. Other finalists for the award, which was sponsored by Nortel Networks, were WorldCom and PSINet.

Equant also was one of four finalists in the Most Innovative Service category for its integrated voice and data over IP offering. Equant's first-of-its-kind integrated voice and data over IP service was launched in July with availability in 54 countries.

"Equant is very honored to receive the Best New Carrier Award two years running and to be a finalist for the Most Innovative Service award," said Laurence M. Huntley, executive vice president of marketing, who was in Monaco on 14 November to accept the award.

Survey respondents ranked carriers according to a set of nine criteria, including range and quality of services, innovation, reliability, and customer service. Detailed analysis of the Winning Carriers Survey results, conducted on behalf of Emap by Renaissance Strategy Worldwide, will be published in the November 27 issue of Communications Week International.
