BT has scooped a major contract to supply various EU institutions with network services.

The European Commission, European Parliament, Secretariat of the Council of the EU and other bodies will between them spend about €72m over four years.

There is also the possibility of a four-year extension to the framework contract, bringing the total value to about €162m, according to the EC DG Informatics unit.

The agreement covers managed wide area networks using IP, remote access services, teleworking, internet fallback services and network consultancy.

The EU uses various communications suppliers but BT has in recent years been trying to pick up more business in continental Europe and highlighted a recent €31m win with the Dutch police.
