Well, OK, maybe not everyone, but judging by the feedback I received in response to my Mac mini post the other day, people are putting them to all sorts of clever uses.

Here are just a few examples of how these machines have been put to use:

  • Music/media servers
  • Home entertainment
  • Driving LCD projectors
  • Backup server
  • Running video walls
  • Point of Sale (PoS) system
  • As many of you pointed out, Chris Pirillo uses a Mac mini to manage his Ustream live feed

There were literally dozens of other applications that these small workhorses (workponies?) have been put to use on, and people seem quite happy with the price/performance level of theses systems. Performance isn't everything!

It seems the appeal of these systems is the small footprint, the low noise level when it's in use and the fact that the minis are really quick and easy to set up. Convienience does still trump price, as long as the balance is right.
