Linda Price, currently Fairfax's director of IT and group human resources director, will join Gartner in February 2009, replacing well-known local analyst Mary Ann Maxwell, who will head back to her home country of the US but remain within Gartner.

Her IT replacement at Fairfax, according to a company spokesperson, will be Tim Mannes, who has been appointed general manager, IT, Australian Publishing and Printing.

Price's Fairfax career began in late 2000 when she joined The Age newspaper as technology director after a stint at Gartner in the same Executive Programs group.

In her current role she oversees more than 200 IT professionals, with the help of Fairfax general manager of IT Denildo Albuquerque. The executive has also held senior IT management positions with groups like Bonlac Foods and Moore Business Systems, as well as teaching business computing at a tertiary level. She holds a Masters of Business Administration from Monash University.

"Linda is well-known for driving large organisational change programs with passion and energy," said Maxwell in a statement. "She was universally characterised by her managers and colleagues as being customer-focused and consistently calm under pressure — attributes that will serve her well in her new role."
