The Federal Government's Department of Finance and Deregulation is after a new chief information officer to spearhead its IT agenda.

The successful candidate is set to sit within Finance's chief operating officer (COO) group. Under the COO, the CIO will spearhead the department's IT remodel.

"As the chief information officer you will lead a division responsible for the efficient and effective deployment of information and communication technology and services to support the department achieving its outcomes.

"You will drive a reform agenda which will enhance the division's reputation as a highly responsive provider of ICT services," the job ad said.

ZDNet Australia contacted Finance to determine how long the CIO seat had been vacant for and what the new candidate could expect to be paid, but it hadn't responded to questions at the time of publication.

Applications close on 3 October.
