ZDNet Australia has announced the opening of nominations for the CIO of the Year Award for 2007.

Focusing on Australia-based CIOs (including IT Directors or the equivalent head of IT within a commercial, public sector or not-for-profit organisation), the award is designed to recognise the individual who has made the most important and demonstrable business impact over the past year.

According to editorial director Brian Haverty, "An award such as this gives us an interesting look at how technology and organisations interact. Very often it's far more than the technology itself that makes the difference -- it's the vision behind the implementation of that technology. And that's what we want to highlight with the CIO of the Year Award."

Nominations for the awards can be submitted here, and nominations close on August 23, 2007. The final short list of nominees will be announced on September 3, and the winner will be revealed on September 17.
