Mozilla has released the first release candidate of Firefox 4 for Android and Maemo, which the company said offers faster scrolling, a more responsive interface with Firefox Sync and other usability improvements.

The release candidate (RC) supports common Firefox 4 features, such as the Awesome Bar, Sync and Firefox add-ons. It also builds on earlier Firefox mobile beta releases by improving usability, for example, adding copy and paste functionality in form fields, text reflow on zoom and a slimmed down form helper, according to Madhava Enros, lead UI designer for Firefox Mobile.

Mozilla said in a blog post on Monday that it is working closely with add-on developers to ensure that their products are compatible with Firefox 4 for Android and Maemo.

The Firefox 4 RC build is available to download for Android devices from the Android Market and the Maemo version can be downloaded directly from devices running the Linux-based operating system.

On Monday, Mozilla released the desktop Firefox 4 client for PC, Mac and Linux, bringing with it HTML 5 support, anti-tracking privacy and hardware acceleration.
