Ford expands PeopleSoft contract

Ford Motor has expanded its software contract with PeopleSoft, agreeing to purchase applications to help its information technology department keep track of projects and activities of more than 6,000 IT staff and contractors, the companies said Monday. Ford already uses PeopleSoft's human resources and accounting applications. This new software licensing arrangement is a coup for a division of PeopleSoft that competes in the so-called professional-services automation market. PSA software helps consultants and service-oriented companies, as well as service units within larger companies, to better organize projects by keeping an inventory of staff with needed skills and their availability for projects. It also provides tools for tracking budgets and project management tools for collaborating with contractors and suppliers. --Alorie Gilbert, Special to ZDNet News
