Free Software Definition condensed

When people ask me, “So, what is Free Software?”, I very often tremble in my wellingtons. There is just so much to explain but to put it in an (O'Reilly) nutshell?

Well, there's the Free Software Foundation's definition, which is irritatingly zero-indexed and rather verbose for a quick explanation.
