Fujitsu chills with mid-line Xeon servers

Primergy line runs 32/64-bit applications, features new cooling system
Written by Nadia Ilyin, Contributor
Fujitsu this week inserted four new servers into the lower middle of its Primergy line. The two tower servers (TX200 S2 and TX300 S2) and two rack servers (RX200 S2 and RX300 S2) all feature Intel Xeon dual processors with Intel's Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T), enabling them to run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. The servers also incorporate a new cooling system.

Because the Xeon processor dynamically adjusts its power consumption to reduce operating costs and heat output, Fujitsu said, the company redesigned the serving housing, using larger fans and independent air tunnels, to increase airflow and improve cooling.

A variety of redundancy and hot-plug features support continuous platform operation and reliability, Fujitsu said. All servers include hot-plug drives: the RX200 S2 includes two, the RX300 S2 six, and the tower servers have six, extendable to nine. Other features include hot-spare memory, hot-plug power supplies, hot-plug PCI-X and hot-plug redundant fans, embedded RAID 1 mirroring and redundant dual LAN.

Included with the S2 servers is the Primergy ServerView Suite for supporting configuration, setup and remote management.

A universal tower-to-rack conversion kit is available for the tower servers. The RX200 S2 rack server is built with a 1U form factor; the RX300 S2, a 2U form factor.

All four servers are currently available. List prices for base models start at $2,219.
