Fusion-io buys software defined storage player ID7

Fusion-io, which specializes in solid-state data center storage systems, said it acquired ID7 to broaden its software footprint. ID7 focuses on open source shared storage applications.

For Fusion-io, the ID7 acquisition gives it software defined storage play. Much like networking, servers and other parts of the data center, storage is being virtualized and ultimately revolving around software. ID7 develops and contributes to SCST, a Linux storage software subsystem.


ID7 has already been a partner of Fusion-io as the two companies have collaborated on the ION Data Accelerator.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Fusion-io CEO David Flynn said the ID7 acquisition will give the company new engineers and allow it to boost efficiency in data centers. Fusion-io said that ID7 will continue to contribute to SCST and develop software for Flash data centers.

ID7 is based in the United Kingdom and launched in 2006.
