Garmin has trotted out the new Approach S1, which is being touted as the first GPS wristwatch "designed specifically for golf."

Weighing in at 1.8-ounces, the waterproof Approach S1 sports an ultra-thin backlit display, an alarm function, and automatic time zone detection. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery lasts up to eight hours in GPS mode and up to three weeks in standard watch mode.

The Approach S1 is pre-loaded with over 14,000 U.S. and Canadian courses, and it will offer up precise yardages to the front, back and middle of greens. Some in-play features include measuring individual shot distances as well as providing three distances to each hole with displaying the hole number and par.

If you're an avid golfer, then this sounds like a fine companion. On paper, it seems the only thing it doesn't do is carry your golf clubs. But before you go out and splurge on this $249.99 time piece, check www.garmin.com/golfcourses to double check if your favorite course is available on the Approach S1.
