The move is notable since tablets, mostly Apple's iPad, are being used in the cockpit over flight kits and paper-based systems. Garmin is also recognizing that its tools may not be sold with its own hardware all the time, hence the app for other platforms.

The Garmin Pilot app for iOS and Android will provide aviation weather data for US and Canada as well as information from NEXRAD radar, cloud imagery, fuel pricing and condition measurements. Pilots can also log weather briefings from the Federal Aviation Administration.
