Gartner highlights virtualization security dangers

Sixty percent of virtual servers are less secure than the physical servers they have replaced, according to analysts at Gartner.

In a report released on Monday, the research firm outlined six of the most common security risks faced by companies as server workloads are increasingly virtualized, including problems with security planning and the immaturity of current security tools for virtualized data centers.

The report, entitled Addressing the Most Common Security Risks in Data Centre Virtualization Projects, arrives as the industry is increasingly acknowledging security as an issue holding back enterprise virtualization. Earlier this month, for instance, Microsoft and RSA both targeted the issue at the RSA Conference 2010 in San Francisco.
