Gen-i confirmed to ZDNet Australia today that Varney would be replaced with Gen-i's general manager of Wellington enterprise and public sector Paul Wilson.
Varney's departure from the company, first reported by Computerworld New Zealand, comes following a recent organisational restructure of the Telecom New Zealand IT service arm.
Last month the company confirmed that some Australian jobs could be made redundant as part of the restructure.
Earlier today, internet service provider iiNet went into a trading halt amid speculation it was seeking to purchase Telecom New Zealand subsidiary AAPT.
