GIPS Ships Bits for Hip DSP Chips

Global IP Sound (GIPS) has licensed its iLBC (internet Low Bitrate Codec) codec to Infineon Technologies AG. Chip-maker Infineon is a leading provider of VoIP semiconductor technologies.

Global IP Sound (GIPS) has licensed its iLBC (internet Low Bitrate Codec) codec to Infineon Technologies AG. Chip-maker Infineon is a leading provider of VoIP semiconductor technologies.

This represents another DSP (Digital Signal Processing) chip win for GIPS.iLBC is being marketed by GIPS asa royalty-free solution that allows mamufacturers to create a VoIP solution that greatly improves the fidelity of narrowband VoIP communication. The result is a more natural, crisper sound.

The secret sauce in iLBC is an algorithm that can be used to architect a speech coding system with controlled response to packet loss. The controlled response measures out at a sampling rate of 8kHz. What's more, bit-rate frame lengths weigh in at 13.3 kbps with encoding frame length of 30 ms or15.2 kbps with an encoding frame length of20 ms.
