The app gap continues to close for Windows Phone on almost a daily basis and today we see that GM becomes the first automaker to support all four primary smartphone platforms, including Windows Phone, with its remote vehicle access application. OnStar RemoteLink lets you connect to your vehicle for remote start, remote lock, remote horn and lights, and view various data captured by your vehicle's on board system.

My MoTR podcast co-host, Kevin Tofel, has a Chevy Volt and has written some great articles about his experiences on GigaOM. With a Windows Phone app now available maybe I can finally convince him to spend more time with Windows Phone. I am a bit of a fan, thanks in large part to the fabulous Nokia Lumia 1020 .

According to GM, the RemoteLink app is compatible with nearly all newer GM vehicles and has been downloaded over 1.7 million times. The most common use is to monitor vehicle data such as tire pressure, fuel level, and charging status. HTML5 was used to develop the BlackBerry 10 and Windows Phone apps.

GM recently announced that the RemoteLink key-fob features, remote start/lock/unlock/horn/lights, is now standard for five years on all new GM vehicles. With my short commute to the train each day, the Chevy Volt is looking more and more attractive as my next vehicle purchase.
