Google Apps users get email and contacts migration tool

Summary:The same functionality has been available to consumer Gmail users for a while, but can now also be used by those using the standard, business, government or education flavours of Google Apps.

Google has made it possible for Google Apps users to import emails and contacts from rival services such as AOL, Hotmail and Yahoo.

Already available to consumer customers, the tool had not until now been a feature for Apps users. On Thursday Google said in a blog post that the business, government, education and standard versions of Apps would all benefit.

As with the consumer version, the tool cannot be used to import emails from other Gmail accounts — that requires the separate Mail Fetcher tool.

The migration tool is provided by TrueSwitch rather than Google itself. The same technology underpins migrations to, as well as from, Hotmail and AOL Mail.
