Google has more than tripled the amount of email storage it makes available to users of Google Apps for Education.

The storage limit was 7GB, the same as is offered by default to normal consumers that use Gmail, but is as of this week 25GB, the same as is given to Gmail for Business subscribers.

In a blog post on Friday, Eric Edens of the Google Apps for Education team wrote that the increased mailbox size would be immediately available for new schools migrating their systems to Google, while existing customers will get the boost "over the course of the next few weeks".

Google first launched Apps for Education in 2006, with 2GB of email storage available to each user.
