The iOS app for the Google+ social network has been updated to support the iPod Touch and the iPad.

Google unveiled its social network at the end of June, and the iOS app arrived less than a month later. However, that version of the app only supported the iPhone, and neither Apple's portable media player nor its tablet.

The update to fix these compatibility issues came on Monday, when version 1.0.2.1966 of the iOS Google+ app was released.

Apart from the ability to use it on the iPod Touch and iPad as well as iPhone, the updated app also included performance and stability improvements and more settings for the Huddle group messaging feature.

As with the Android version of the app, the iOS app now lets users view specific circles of contacts in their mobile stream, and choose who can start a Huddle with them.

Comments on a Google+ post from Punit Soni, the lead product manager for Google+ Mobile, also suggested that the new version works fairly well on the beta version of iOS 5, the updated version of Apple's mobile operating system that is due for release later this year.

The new version of the Google+ iOS app requires, at the oldest, iOS 4 in order to work.
