Google (service name here) isn't that popular

I have said in the past that Google does a poor job of cross-marketing their services.  There are so many of them that it's hard for anybody to keep up, let alone the people who actually matter -- Mom and Dad.

I have said in the past that Google does a poor job of cross-marketing their services.  There are so many of them that it's hard for anybody to keep up, let alone the people who actually matter -- Mom and Dad.  Does anyone remember Google Catalogs? yep it's still there.

New statistics from hitwise suggest that the only service Google can call a "huge success" is Google Search which has, according to them, a 79.98% market share.  The runner up is Google Image Search with 9.54%, and from there the market share for the rest rapidly shrink.

Overall though, the trend is upward, and Google is at 4.3% of all internet visits for the week ending 5/13/2006.  If Google wants their other services (like Google Base wich doesn't even register on the survey) to be popular, they need to do something to help Mom and Dad learn about, understand and use them.
