googletransit.gifOn December 5th, Google registered two new domain names -- under multiple top level domains.  These include googletransittripplanner.com/net/info and googletripplanner.net/info.  The domain googletripplanner.com is currently still registered to someone in Virginia.  Just recently, Google announced their new Google Lab's project "Google Transit" which promises to allow users to easily access public transit schedules, routes, and plan trips using their local public transportation options.

These new domains and the new service might also represent the future for what Google has been testing out the past couple months.  The current service helps you book flights in North America and trains in the Netherlands according to some of the comments in John Batelle's post.  There is no doubt that Google will plan to elaborate on this service, and one day may even offer a similar service to Yahoo! Travel which uses Travelocity or MSN Travel Central which uses Expedia data. There is definitely room for a service that compares information from all travel sites and lets people choose which one is best for them.
