Government considering chatroom controls

Hotline for concerned children or more online supervision could be on the way
Written by Graeme Wearden, Contributor

The government is considering taking action to prevent Internet chatrooms being used by paedophiles to meet children, a home office minister announced Tuesday.

Methods could include improved supervision of chatrooms, and hotlines which a child could call if they feared they had been targeted online, explained Lord Bassam.

The announcement follows criticism of the government and the Internet industry, which were accused of apathy towards the dangers of chatrooms at Tuesday's Internet Watch Foundation seminar.
