There is still a soft spot in my heart for Palm OS devices since they were what I started out with back in 1997 (actually the OS looks just about the same as it was then) and this latest news has me considering a new Palm device. Palm announced that you can now purchase a SIM-unlocked Palm Centro for US$299. The Palm Centro has been a successful device for Palm on Sprint and AT&T, with the recent release also for Verizon. Now that it is available as a GSM unlocked device T-Mobile USA customers, and worldwide GSM customers, can now pick one up with another unique color scheme.
The GSM unlocked model takes the white color and includes the less flashy (some say the green was ugly) dark gray number highlighted keyboard.
The device supports EDGE data networks so it isn't the fastest device for mobile data access, but it does have wide network support and is a good texting device. Other specs are the same as the AT&T Centro, including a 320x320 display, Palm OS 5.4.9, Bluetooth 1.2, 1.3 megapixel camera, microSD card slot, and quad-band GSM.
The new version of Google Maps for mobile with My Location can also be downloaded for this new Centro starting tomorrow. This latest version of Google Maps for the Palm Centro can be downloaded at www.google.com/gmm from your Palm Centro device.
